Is blind wine tasting really that hard?

Pre WSET3 studying involves some wine tastings. Which are definitely not my finest moments. ‘Oh yes, I recognise it, but I can’t place it’, are my most uttered words I believe. Right now I feel like I can sample about three or four wines, before they all begin to smell and taste the same and I have a complete shutdown. #tastingfail

Don’t even get me started on blends, because that really gets me off the rails.
Last week, I did my first blind tasting, and with regret I have to admit I did not even recognise a Viognier from the South of France. The shame and disbelief got me to an all time low.

So with a total lack of confidence I dragged my feet over to a new wine tasting challenge. After failing the first two wines, a little redemption with the third, as I identified the Viognier. I can’t look into the future, but the thought scares me I need to learn to master this. With total conviction at this moment, I will answer the question of ‘ Is it really that hard’ with a ‘Yes, it sure is!’ #thestruggleisreal
