Spotlight on: Domaine du Joncas. When visiting a local cave in the south of France, the owner asked me what kind of wine I was looking for. My reply was that I was interested in a red, and asked him instead of what his personal choice was.
He gave me this Domaine du Joncas, Joia, 2014, a biological local wine of the Languedoc region, located in Montpeyroux. The domaine consists of eight hectares in three plots.
The wine is a blend of Grenache Noir, Syrah and Cinsaut and has a deep ruby red color. With a nose that has an appealing smoky, leathery and dark red fruits aroma. Well balanced and structured.
Élevage; this is the progression of wine between fermentation and bottling. This wine is raised as three quarters of the wine is kept in stainless steel tanks, while the rest in a concrete egg. Because of this way of raising, you will notice a difference in the wine as it’s very pure and also unfiltered.
Conclusion: The owner of that cave was damn right about this wine.
