After my short and sweet summer love affair with Italian wines, I have now pointed my arrows towards Australian wines.
It’s not that I am moving on to soon, this is not a rebound, however there is so much more to still discover!
So last night we finally met, finally. Peter Lehmann Clancy’s Cabernet – Shiraz – Merlot 2010, from Australia’s Barossa Valley vineyards. This easy-drinking blend offers a rich, smokey nose of blackcurrant and red fruits of the 3 grape varieties and a hint of charry oak. It feels well balanced and even with it’s 14,5%, still has smooth taste. While the tannins will meet you at the first sip, the aftertaste is light earthy/mineral.
Now; some background information on Peter Lehmann, who is considered a legend by many in the Barossa. And I did not make that up, it’s written on their website:
“Renowned for sticking up for what’s right, and for the people and wine he believes in. Renowned for the hospitality he shows to anyone with a story to share, or just time to spare.”
In my opinion: the legend lives on. Thank you, Peter.
